The inReach Mini has a few functions that work without an inReach subscription plan, but there are a number of communication features that require an active plan. The inReach Mini 2 can be paired with a mobile device to compose, send, and receive messages using the interface of your mobile device. Using the inReach Mini 2 with your mobile device will require the Garmin Explore app.
Messages to the Garmin International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC), during an SOS are not charged. For messages to anyone other than the IERCC during an SOS, standard messaging charges will be applied. You will need an inReach plan for other messages.
